At the risk of alienating everyone, I shall endeavor to tell you a few things about the Type 1 (bus), 2(address), and 3(illegal instruction) errors, and their resolution. These all arise as the result of corrupted (in years past, poorly written) programs.
In Type 1 the application tried to access RAM which it is not allowed to have, it being reserved for another use, or RAM which simply is not there.
In Type 2, it tried to access RAM at the wrong block of the chip. It is making a call to the RAM but is giving an incorrect address and as a result the call is not aligned to the RAM Allocation.
In Type 3, the application is speaking in tongues to the processor. And the processor has no clue what it is asking for.
It has been the traditional solution of many to simple jack up the memory allocation to the application. And, yes, this might get rid of the error, but it doesn't get rid of the problem. And in some cases, the calls made by the corrupted application are so wild that you might have to allocate several hundred megs before you ever get the error to clear, if at all. A terrible waste of RAM. And, in doing so, you might actually cause other Applications to start making bad RAM calls.
It is like seeing a guy with his shoelaces tied together complaining that he can't ever get to work on time, so you say, OK, I can fix that, and you buy him a Ferrari. Sure, he will get to work on time, but it would have been a lot better to tie his shoes right, or at least get him some slippers!
If you are having the error come out of a particular app, then start with that app. Reinstall it. Make sure you have the latest updates to it. Talk to their Tech Support and make sure it is compatible with your OS. Get on their case if need be. Remember, they only have a job because of people like you and me, so they should be glad to see us. And don't let them try to pass the buck to Apple. If you are not aware of any known problems with the OS, and you have done all the work you mention with your OS, then tell them that.
If you want to post back again, give the names tof the apps you are experiencing the probs with. Maybe others here have had similar probs with that app and know the answer. Granted, some are hard to find. I am currently embroiled in combat with the gods of my iMac's hard drive, and so far they got me scratching my head, but I know I'll get them, eventually.
And who knows, maybe there really is a glitch in the OS that no one has found yet. They pop up all the time, ergo, the reason for Updates, and maybe this will help get it fixed. Whereas, just throwing more RAM at it will just keep it hidden longer.
Good Hunting!
